Had some midi trickery going on so I could use the SPD-SX's pad inputs for more triggers than the Octapad could actually take. Pretty complex set-up but the footprint was pretty small all things considered. The Octapad was the main brain, the SPD-SX was running click tracks and linked up to the TM-2 for the backing tracks. This is the setup I was using for about 2 1/2 years with my covers band. I'm a pretty happy camper right now to say the least. Even when I was eyeballing the TD-25KV or any other kit for that matter, my intention was always to bypass their onboard module sounds.

But my intention was always to hook up to a pc to trigger my drum mixes anyways. Triple zones too are out of the question for now.Ĭourse if I had a need for onboard samples or sound engines from the module, I'd be far less enthused than I am now. Granted, mesh triggers for the toms would be better overall for feel, but I can live with the pads on the SPD unit for now. Not to mention I'll have 12 triggers out the door, versus the 9 on the TD-25KV kit. With my setup, I've managed a much smaller footprint, and several hundred dollars less than what a TD-25KV would've ran me in terms of cost. If the SPD-30 manages to handle the VH-11 decently, I'll be one happy man. I managed to land a mint KD-9 and VH-11 for 350$ total cost yesterday. It saves the settings automatically upon shutdown, how convenient!

The only instance in which I had to reference the manual, was to check on how to save my kit after I had finished with my midi assignments on each pad. I'm beginning to wonder what all the complaints were about, concerning the interface and the menus on the SPD-30, as it appears pretty straightforward to me. Triggering my drum mix with toontrack via usb-midi and the setup involved was an absolute breeze.

I can do the lightest of snare rolls and gradually build up my play, and the feedback I'm getting is spot-on. within about 30 minutes I was ready and set and I have to say I'm pretty damn surprised! Especially at how well it interpreted input form my snare pad! I was completely prepared to be absolutely disappointed or underwhelmed (I hate getting my hopes up), but this performed about as well as I anticipated it would in my ideal scenario. It's only a plugin after all.īut I got in the SPD-30 today. Snare rolls were hardly fluid and natural, with alot of missed notes, etc. I had been fiddling with the PD-128 for about a week, and running through to my interface and audio->midi with DSP Trigger was giving meh performance. Hey! Thanks for chiming in on this Willsud It's much appreciated.
